Cooties - Myth or Fact?

All through our grade school years,
we boys were told as pure fact,
all girls had those dreaded cooties,
and you could catch them on contact.

We would make “Cootie Catchers”;
types of folded paper homemade toys,
and go around checking for cooties,
in the hair of all the boys.

When we showed them the result,
whether they had cooties or not,
we always followed it up,
with that dreaded “Cootie Shot”.

With our finger drawing on their back,
saying, “Circle, Circle, Dot, Dot, Dot.”
Then poke them hard, with our finger,
saying, “Now you had your cootie shot”.

Many years have past since those days,
and I’ve had chiggers, ticks and fleas.
I’ve hugged and kiss my share of girls,
without catching a single cootie or disease.

So now I have cause to wonder,
if girls really have cooties or not,
or was I really immunized for life,
by taking all those “Cootie Shots”?????
