The sky is brightening in the East.
A rooster is starting to crow.
The farmer lifts his sleepy head,
Enjoying the rest he needed so.
Another day is dawning now.
The animals stir from their beds.
They start their pleading call,
Hoping they'll soon be fed.
Breakfast will have to wait.
There are chores that he can't shirk,
But he does them joyfully,
Because he loves his work.
Feed the chickens, slop the hogs,
Feed and milk the cows,
Getting hungry by this time,
He can go eat now.
Wake the kids from their dreams.
It's another school day.
Get then dress and fed,
And sent them on their way.
Just one more cup of coffee.
While chatting with his mate.
All of the work of the day,
They both can contemplate.
A world of work, he can see,
Enough to last all year.
Land to plow, seed to plant;
You can't get there from here.
The livestock needs his care.
The Old boar is to neuter.
It's not likely they'll get done.
He's got a brand new computer.
