The dearest of all my memories,
was when we gathered as family,
with just our Mom and Dad,
and my two brothers and me.
Dad at the head of the table,
in the old fashion arm chair,
would say, "Now bow your heads,
I'm going to say the prayer".
Though we didn't have much,
we were thankful for what we had.
It seemed like a royal feast,
when we ate it with Mom and Dad.
Lots of beans and cornbread,
or maybe a Mulligan Stew,
and seldom was anything left,
when each meal was through.
Mom had a special touch.
Her abilities were very well known.
She could make batch of hamburger,
Taste like it was Fillet Minion.
We were all truly blessed.
I am thankful unto this day,
and I know Dad was grateful,
and knew he had reason to pray.
Days slipped by so quickly.
We each left, one by one,
but still, our Mom remains,
being left there, all alone.
Tears now clouds her eyes,
each time she says her prayers,
and looks across the table,
and sees the empty chairs.
