Down South on a farm, on a cold Winter morn,
in an ramshackled house, is where I was born.
It was a Share-cropper's house, on my grandpa's estate.
Troubles were many, but the memories are great.

It was nothing to flaunt, nor to be proud of,
but it was peaceful and humble, and filled with God's love.
It was home to our family, nothing else really mattered.
Who cares if it was old, all rickety and tattered.

Then times got too hard, and we moved away,
but I knew in my heart, I'd return there some day.
We moved out West, where Daddy got a job,
just mother and dad, me and my brother, Bob.

Time passed by quickly, moving from town to town,
But everywhere we went, a new home was not found.
Then I met my true love, and took her for my wife.
We started our family, living a big city life.

We bought our first house, through the years to come,
somehow in my mind, it still wasn't my home.
Many years then had passed, time had taken its toll.
Our children had grown up, I we had grown old.

My family was scattered, from here to kingdom come.
The time finally arrived, to make my way back home.
The old house is now gone.  This, I should have known.
The main house still stands, looking old and so alone.

Still the memories are fresh, full of happiness and sorrows.
My folks are all gone, knowing no more tomorrows.
I can still hear their voices, as o'er the fields I now roam,
Saying, don't fool yourself.  You're still not truly home.

So, I'm finally content, because I now realize.
The home that I long for, lies beyond the blue skies.
There is no more seeking.  No where else will I roam.
Faith is my ticket, and heaven's my home.
