My Country

There she stands, in the harbor,
looking out to the open sea.
Holding up the torch of freedom,
for all the world to see.
She's the bride of "Uncle Sam."
"Liberty," is her sweet name.
Her message is "freedom."
That's why so many came.
The oppressed from every nation,
flowed into this mighty land,
and found a peaceful refuge,
within her protecting hand.
Her freedom has been costly,
bought with blood, in war.
Young men became her heroes,
giving 'til they could give no more.

Many a life has been forfiet,
on some strange foreign shore,
keeping all other oppressors,
from her freedom's door.
She is always a good neighbor,
generous to a fault,
providing and protecting others,
when they would suffer assault.
The eagle is her symbol,
her motto, "In God We Trust."
To remain this, now free, nation,
that faith is an absolute, "must."
When I see "Old Glory" waving,
and "Star Spangled Banner" I hear,
I get a knot in my throat,
and shed a greatful tear.
Be watchful, O ye people.
That freedom you must defend,
against each and every foe,
that comes from without and within.
I love this great nation.
I'm filled with righteous pride.
To keep her strong and free,
God must be on our side.
