Old Tires

Our toys had no batteries,
no electronics or remote control.
If they had any movement,
we had to make them roll.
Most of my favorite play things,
were not toys at all.
With a worn out old tire,
we kids could have a ball.
If we were really lucky,
we had more than just one.
Friends could join in the picture.
That's when we really had fun.
We had "Tire Rolling Races."
They were the most fun of all.
A mad dash for the finish,
Without crashing or letting them fall.
It was real dusty and dirty,
'cus we didn't have paved streets.
Since we were hot and sweaty,
it would stick to our hands and feet.
At times when we were resting,
we stacked them with someone inside,
or we curled up in the center,
while others would give us a ride.
We turned over and over,
as we were rolled about,
'til we got so dizzy,
that we finally fell out.
There were other similar toys,
that we found around our home,
but, for now I will save them.
for yet, another poem.
