IF I WAS!

If I was a bull frog,
Sitting on a lily pad
I'd fill my days with bugs and flies
And never would I be sad!
Or if I was a turtle
Swimming in a muddy bog,
I'd lay around and sun myself
Upon a rotting log!
And if I'd been a garden snake
Hiding in the grass
I slip around and gorge myself
And wait for time to pass!
If I could have been a puppy dog
And have a friend like you,
Never would I worry
For there'd be lots to do!
But I'm not a bullfrog
Or a turtle on a rotting log.
A snake I've no desire to be!
Much less a puppy dog!
What I am, I always was
And will always be!
What you see is what I am..
For this is really me!
Some times I am sad and worry
Some times I feel alone.
At times I'm often discouraged
No one to call my own!
Then the sun begins to shine
And light my soul within!
When I realize how great it is
To have you for my Friend!
