Watch

Grandma taught me an awesome lesson, using just one simple word.
With a whisper, she said, "watch," as she showed me a mother bird.
A Cardinal, in her beauty, with three chicks in her nest,
busied herself in feeding them, never stopping for a rest.
As I watched in amazement, she knew the lesson was learned.
The birds would not be harmed.  She, no longer, was concerned.
Again, one day she showed me, her favorite family of squirrels,
as they scampered from tree to tree, flicking their tails in curls.
From a hollow in the tree, two babies had wandered out,
investigating their surroundings, they were sniffing all about.
It gave me a special feeling.  Grandma had known from the start,
if I would stop and "watch," they would win my heart.
Kittens, puppies and chicks, butterflies, rabbits and doves,
were the training aids she used, to teach me a lesson in love.
Every chance she got, she showed me something new.
The world was her classroom.  She taught me what she knew.
She was never to busy to stop, and share many other lessons.
The subject that she taught, was a knowledge of God's blessings.
"Watch," was her instruction.  Nature has done the rest.
I've done a lot of homework.  I hope I will pass the test.
This world would be more peaceful.  We could learn to get along.
If we understood our neighbors, we might not do them wrong.
Thanks, Grandma, for your lessons.  They could melt a heart of stone.
I will do my very best, to pass your lessons on.
