Wintry Scenes

The morning's scene on a wintry day,
When cold winds blow and skies are gray,
Somehow, soothe and warm my soul,
And keeps my heart from growing old.
The beauty of fresh fallen snow,
Renews old thoughts of long ago.
To make a snowman in the yard,
We kids would always work real hard.
Soon a snowball fight would erupt,
Continuing until one side would give up.
With noses, red and fingers, numb,
We went inside.  We weren't so dumb.
Hot chocolate and marshmallows were our goal,
Trying to reverse the effects of the cold.
Out once again, we'd rush out to play,
Knowing tomorrow, it would vanish away.
The day finally ending, we'd go inside,
Leaving a wonderland in the snow, outside.
This scene to recall a thousand times,
Living it all over, if just in my mind.
