Would You Be My Friend?

Would you be my friend,
If I slandered your name,
Or if my life was such,
That it brought you shame?
Would it be your goal,
To cover all that's wrong,
Seeking to change my ways,
Making our relations strong?
Would you be my friend,
If I ignored your pleas,
And shunned your offers,
Like some dreaded disease ?
Would you still be willing,
To pay what ever it cost,
Knowing, if not paid,
My life would be lost?
Only a very special friend,
Could overcome such dross,
And willingly face a death,
On that Old Rugged Cross.
It was not only for me.
His blood was shed for all,
Who would hear his voice,
And answer his tender call.
